Dawn Brimmer, British School of Washington, 2008 Graduate

Dawn Brimmer has always enjoyed hard facts. So when Dawn joined the British School of Washington in September 2006 for the IB Diploma programme, she wasn't quite sure how the school and the programme would tailor to her needs.

Dawn's strength in her academics became even stronger when the British School of Washington introduced to her a new concept on learning – learning wasn't about learning facts, but how to relate them to real life. After taking hold of this concept, she excelled even more, becoming a finalist in the highly competitive National Merit Awards.

When it came time to graduate, Dawn had many options to choose from. She received offers to study medicine at Harvard University, Princeton University and John Hopkins University. She received offers from Kings College London and Sheffield University, a particularly commendable achievement given that there were very few number of places for international students looking to study medicine. Dawn chose Harvard University, where she is a freshman this year. Dawn's form tutor, Katherine Hatchard, and Scott Hussey, Dawn's IB Coordinator, put it best: "Dawn arrived at BSW an intelligent, factual, conservative academic. She graduated an intelligent, explorative, open minded, considerate friend to all."
